On May 15, 1936, 17 men and women met in Shafter California to organize a new Church.  The original 17 members were folks who had re-located to Shafter, CA all migrating from Oklahoma and Arkansas during the “Dust Bowl Era”. They arrived with the dream of a brighter future for their families. Finding no Southern Baptist Churches they covenanted together and formed the First Southern Baptist of Shafter. The FSBC of Shafter became the first Southern Baptist Church in the entire state of California.

Their passion for starting a new work remains our passion today; and that is to reach the community with the message of a resurrected, forgiving and loving Savior  the Lord Jesus Christ. Burning deep in the heart of the original founders, and ours today, is a desire to see that everyone everywhere has the opportunity to hear the marvelous story of Jesus Christ and His saving grace.
